Distribution
in the wild:
Afghanistan
and former USSR (Central Asia), in high foothills to foothill
plains in grassland, in grass and wormwood areas.

Herbaceous perennial 40-60
cm. Leaves elliptical, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, margin
mostly entire or sparsely dentate at base. 9-16 × 3-7 cm;
petioles of basal leaves 2.5-3.5 cm. Upper leaves similar
or narrowly lanceolate, smaller, gradually attenuate to
broad petiole, covered with monoradial hairs, densely stellate-tomentose
beneath, 4.5 × 8-10 mm. Stems branched, floccose, Four
to seven distant whorls of 2-8 flowers. Bracteoles free
at base, thickish, attenuate towards apex, appressed to
flowers, half to two thirds length of calyx, stellate-hairy.
Calyx tubular-campanulate 14-17 mm, floccose-tomentose,
erect teeth 2-3 mm, equal. Corolla yellow. Nutlets hairless.
