Distribution
in the wild:
Former
USSR (Central Asia), in high foothills, woodland and scrub
belt.
Flowering
in the wild:June-July
fruticetorum
means partially shrubby.
Only
just joined the Collection. It is believed to be quite close
to P. cashmeriana, but the leaves are more
papery and do not seem to have the intense white indumentum
on the lower side.
Herbaceous
perennial 50-80 cm. Basal leaves oblong-lanceolate
or cordate-oblong, subcordate or rarely almost rounded at
base, shortly acuminate, denticulate at margin. Stem leaves
more or less cordate at base, gradually attenuate towards
apex with undulate or denticulate margins; petioles 13-20
cm. Upper surface of floral leaves bright green with scattered
stellate and monoradial hairs, lower surface densely stellate-tomentose.
Stems simple or branched, many whorls borne on short peduncles.
Bracteoles subulate 15-17 mm, up curved. Calyx campanulate
13 mm, white-tomentose and monoradial hairs, teeth subulate,
unequal, upper 5-6 mm, lower 10 mm. Corolla pink. Nutlets
hairless.
