Welcome to the Cambridgeshire Group’s pages. The Group has been in existence since 1983. Dr Max Walters, who was involved in setting up NCCPG, presided at our inaugural meeting in March of that year. At our first full meeting three months later members were given a chance to see behind the scenes at Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
We maintained close contact with the Garden over the years and until autumn 2008 held our meetings there. Then rebuilding work prompted us to move to Scotsdale’s Garden Centre at Great Shelford. (to find it see the map on their website: www.scotsdalegardencentre.co.uk).
We have a varied programme of meetings throughout the autumn to spring period, usually with outside speakers. Most are free to Plant Heritage members, £3 to non-members. In addition we have at least one outing each summer and hold one or two plant sales each year. You’ll find us a friendly group whose members range widely in depth of plant knowledge and range of skills and specialisations.
Members of our Group hold 14 National Collections, with genera almost spanning the alphabet (Alchemilla to Yucca). Nine of these are at Cambridge Botanic Garden, one is at Wimpole Hall (National Trust) and the others are in private hands.
If you would like any further information please get in touch with either of the Group contacts (see button on left).
