Who can hold a Plant Heritage (NCCPG) National Plant Collection®?
Anyone can hold a Collection as long as they have the facilities to support their chosen plant group and the time and dedication to maintain the standards of the scheme. Collection Holders include private individuals, nurseries, local authorities, public gardens, botanic gardens, arboreta and historic gardens.
Where do you start?
If, after reading the application pack you are interested in starting a Collection there are two sources of advice and help:
Most areas have a volunteer National Collections Coordinator. This will be your local contact. Also, please feel free to contact National Office.
.
Which groups of plants are not already protected in a collection?
If you want to build a collection and you don't know where to start, the National Plant Collections Directory is a useful resource. It lists all the genera that are are already covered by the scheme. If you would like to look at the genera that are not covered, try the Missing Genera list. (this is a large Excel file!). Over time, the Threatened Plants Project will identify critically endangered plants that we would like to prioritise, but until the Project's results are published, please contact the National Office for advice.
National Plant Collection(s)® is a Registered Trade Mark of the NCCPG
