Distribution in the wild:Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Karpathos & Kos, in scrub, garigue, sea level–900 m.

Flowering in the wild:       March–April

floccosa means woolly, looking like matted wool.

Only one characteristic is really needed to define this plant and that is the hooked calyx teeth. Tender.

Shrub to 1m. Lower leaves oblong-ovate or ovate-lanceolate, cordate or sub-cordate at base, crenate at margin, rugose on upper surface, stellate-tomentose on both surfaces, 3–5 cm long; petiole to 3 cm. Floral leaves lanceolate, acute or acuminate; shortly petiolate. Whorls 4–8 flowered. Bracteoles numerous, linear-subulate, 15–18 mm, stellate-lanate, ciliate with 2–3 mm hairs. Calyx tubular, 15–19 mm, stellate-lanate, ciliate; calyx teeth subulate, unciniate, 1+5 mm. Corolla 25–32 mm, yellow. Nutlets glabrous.
