In
places like central London this Cestrum (Solanaceae
family) from Chile, can flower for much of the year and
goes on growing. Here in Gloucestershire it dies back to
bare woody stems which break again in the spring. If there
has been a hard winter it is necessary to cut these right
down for new growth. According to Christopher Lloyd it has
a nutty fragrance late in the evening, but I have failed
to detect any worthwhile scent on the plant itself (he however,
had it as a cut flower inside).
