Anemone hybrida (Ranunculaceae
family.) A good plant for semi shade. This particular cultivar came
from my parent's garden in Aberdeen some 30 years ago. The Anemone
(the spring ones) is often referred to as the wind flower because
of the Greek anemos (wind). Stearn thought that was fallacious.
The ancient Greeks couldn't agree either. Pliny the Elder wrote
The flowers do not open unless the wind blows; thus the name.
Theocritus stated It is called anemone because its flowers fall
immediately; and indeed they do fall and easily fade.
