A
somewhat unusual plant this week, the 'parachute plant' a
succulent twiner to 2 metres, Ceropegia sandersoniae
(Asclepiadaceae family) is from Mozambique and Natal.Note
the fringe of hairs which are very mobile. The tube which
is formed by the 5 united petals of the corolla. They then
turn around and form the top part of the umbrella.I
believe the device is a trap for catching flies. Flowers from
now till late in the year if given warm house conditions with
low humidity. John Sanderson (1820-91) was honorary secretary
of the Horticultural Society of Natal.
