Distribution in the wild:
China, Former USSR (Central Asia). Mountains, in the woodland
and scrub zone.
Flowering in the wild: July-August

Herbaceous perennial to 75 cm. Basal and lower stem leaves
ovate to ovate-oblong, cordate at base, obtusely toothed,
10-17 × 3.5-15 cm; petioles 3-22 cm. Upper stem leaves
similar, smaller; petiole 1-3 cm. Upper floral leaves ovate-oblong,
with rounded or acute teeth; sessile. Upper side of leaves
simple and stellate hairs, lower side with long multi-articulate
hairs on ribs and scattered stellate between. Floral leaves
ovate-oblong, sessile, dentate to subentire at margin. Several
whorls per stem (candelabra branched), many flowered; whorls
on short or elongated peduncles. Bracteoles connate, thickish,
linear-subulate, 8-15 mm covered with stellate and fascicled
hairs. Calyx tubular 10-15 mm, thick veined with simple
and monoradial hairs; teeth notched, with point 1.5-2 mm
from notch. Corolla purple to pink, 15-30 mm. Nutlets hairless.
