New book published on Betula

We are delighted to announce that the long awaited work by the founder of Stone Lane Gardens in Devon, which holds the National Collections of Cornus and Betula, has been published.

The Genus Betula: A taxonomic revision of Birche,  is the first monograph published on this plant group. Fully illustrated throughout with many excellent colour photographs of the trees in the wild, along with botanical paintings and line drawings.

Accounts are given of all known birches found in Europe, Asia and North America, along with a key for their identification. The extensive fossil record and recent molecular work are reviewed. Accounts are given of the cultivation requirements and landscape use of birches, based on the authors’ experience of growing and propagating almost all species.
