Three new National Plant Collections for Plant Heritage

Plant Heritage, leading cultivated plant conservation charity has awarded National Plant Collection® status to three new Collections:

Hemerocallis cvs. with the RHS AGM, Paul Harris

A Collection of Hemerocallis (cultivars with the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit) held by Paul Harris of Brookfield Plants, a family run nursery specialising in Hemerocallis as well as Hosta. Hemerocallis give an impressive display throughout the summer, continuing in flower when other perennials have faded. The Award of Garden Merit (AGM) is the seal of approval from the RHS for plants which perform reliably in the garden, intended to help gardeners choose plants that are the best for all round garden value. There are currently 46 Hemerocallis that hold the RHS’s AGM. Paul displayed his Hemerocallis Collection in the Plant Heritage Marquee at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show for the first time this year.

Trillium spp. & natural hybrids at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

A collection of Trillium spp. & natural hybrids at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) has been awarded National Plant Collection status. It thrives in the woodland garden there and a collecting trip to the USA in 2011 increased the Collection significantly. Some of the species are original collections by Alfred Evans (Assistant Curator RBGE 1939-1985).

Rhododendron hybrids bred at Bodnant Garden 1927-1983, National Trust Bodnant Garden

The Collection of Rhododendron hybrids bred at Bodnant Garden 1927-1983 is Bodnant Gardens’ fifth National Plant Collection and second Collection of Rhododendron. The garden is celebrated for its link to the plant hunters of the early 1900s whose expeditions formed the base of the garden's five National Plant Collections - Magnolia, Embothrium, Eucryphia, Rhododendron forrestii and now it’s latest Collection of Rhododendron hybrids bred at Bodnant Garden 1927-1983.
